Indo-Canadian

Autism Network

(I-CAN)

DFGC has been instrumental in launching the Indo-Canadian Autism Network (I-CAN), a one-of-a-kind partnership that combines the expertise of Canadian professionals working in autism with Indian leaders in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) research and care.

The network was officially introduced in July 2019 in Hyderabad, by a passionate team of clinicians and researchers from more than a dozen leading ASD centers across India, along with five respected Canadian experts dedicated to improving lives for people with autism.

I-CAN was created with a clear goal: to build a global bridge of knowledge, sharing of best practices, and innovation in autism support services.

Since it started, the network has grown into a bright group of 11 partner organizations spread across India, all focused on improving the quality of care for those with ASD.

The collaboration works in a flexible way, combining online meetings, training sessions, and mentorship with face-to-face support and on-the-ground monitoring. At the core of I-CAN is a central Hub that unites Indian partners on a shared platform. This hub makes it easy to keep communication open, encourage ongoing partnerships, and connect directly with Canadian experts who provide valuable advice and insights.

Thanks to this setup, I-CAN encourages a culture of shared learning and collective responsibility. Over the years, I-CAN has hosted four major conferences — in March 2019, February 2020, March 2023 and Sept 2024 — giving professionals from both countries a chance to connect, share experiences, and learn from each other.

These events have played a big role in advancing conversations around early intervention, evidence-based practices, and comprehensive approaches to care.

The impact of I-CAN keeps growing, creating positive change in how autism is understood and supported across India and Canada.
